My Favorite Word

We all know there is power in “words”. The things we say and hear become the things we believe. It’s likely why God pleads with us in multiple verses in the Bible about guarding our hearts and our minds. “Words” are the fuel our hearts and minds use to determine actions. But that’s a whole other blog post, lol!

This blog post is to share one of my top favorite words because it is the fuel that often motivates me to keep moving forward in new things. New things can be scarey and unfamiliar often deterring us from pursuing something new. But there’s a word that helps navigate the scarey and unfamiliar and it holds a lot of power when we choose to remember it.

The word is ACCLIMATE.

I know… it kinda lacks a punch and sizzle. Definitely not a word that would make a cute tattoo. But…make no mistake, it’s pretty powerful.

Everything NEW thing we do will one day no longer be new. It will feel familiar and comfortable. Think about the first day of school, learning to ride a bike, a new house, a new town, a new song you’re learning to play, or a new sport you’re playing. It is always new and hard simply because you don’t know it. But as you do it over and over, you begin to learn it. That’s called ACCLIMATION.

So what’s the quick lesson we can apply? When we encounter something new and feel that uncomfortable feeling, we can remind ourselves it’s only because it’s new and we haven’t ACCLIMATED. Give it a few days and you’ll be much more acclimated and not feeling the uncomfortable. This is powerful because it can help us overcome the fear of failure. It helps us push forward in confidence and relieves the pain of the discomfort.

What do you think? Could this word help you step out and try something you’ve been too afraid to try? I hope so!
